Kruser’s Local Catch

It’s been about two and a half years since I last checked in with Chelsey, and her music career. She had recently made the move to Nashville, and was immersed in songwriting. Fast foward, and I find Chelsey’s “not in Kansas anymore”- musically speaking. The folksy, traditional country girl has transformed her bathroom to look like a dive bar bathroom(see her Tik-Tok), and is diving into a sound she describes as, “if country and rock had a one-night stand.” That definitley describes what Chelsey has been working on.

Is the wailing guitar that opens “I Can’t Be Trusted,” a cry for help? In Chelsey’s new song, she questions her decision- making when in comes to men. “The ones that I want are broken and busted, I can’t be trusted,” warns Carter. But she knows she’ll be back for more, because these bad choices fuel her fire. Clearly, the Sherborn, MA girl is finding her stride in Nashville, soaking up all the sources that surround her. I said before that this singer/songwriter is the real deal, and her songwriting is insightful. Now so, more than ever, Chelsey is connecting through her music, making her message heard. With “I Can’t Be Trusted,” she certainly can be trusted to empower with this catchy and relatable “somebody done somebody wrong song.”

  • Carter Country

Chelsea’s latest single, “I Can’t Be Trusted,” came to be at a time in her life where whe was “spending a lot of time reflecting on past relationships,” she relayed. Carter went on to say, ” I’d had several that were objectively bad decisions and I was doing my best to figure out how I let that happen. “I Can’t Be Trusted” was born out of a thought that maybe I shouldn’t be allowed to make my own decisions as far as my dating life goes, because the wrong choice is much more exciting.”

  • Chelsea, Lately

    * Grew up in: Sherborn, MA

    * Now lives in: Nashville, TN

    * Current single: I just released a new single “I Can’t Be Trusted”…and there’s more coming!

What lead you to music: This is a tough question, because the more I think about it, the more I realize that nothing really lead me to music, it was always just a part of me. My parents definitely helped nurture me, but I think I was destined to find my purpose in music whether I liked it or not.

    * How old when you started: I joined my first band when I was probably 14 or 15, and have been doing it ever since.

    * First country song you learned: I think it was probably “Mean” by Taylor Swift. I remember before my first show with my country band (previously I had only been in rock and pop bands) I was unsure what to expect. But we played this song and every single person sang it with me and y’all, you can’t beat that vibe, if you tried.

    * Instruments played: Guitar, Bass, Piano, Saxophone, Ukelele, and a little banjo and mandolin.

    * How would you describe your sound: If Country and Rock and Roll had a one night stand.

    * Who inspires you: Shania Twain is definitely one of my biggest inspirations. The music industry can be very difficult and challenging, especially for women, and Shania is the ultimate proof that with hard work and determination, we can achieve anything.

    * Dream duet partner: Shania of course!

    * All- time favorite country song: My favorite song honestly changes every day. Today it is Sold Out by Hardy.

    * First country concert: Zac Brown Band!

    * What songs do you like now on Country 1025: Give me anything Luke Combs and I’ll be a happy woman!

    * If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: If I weren’t a musician, I’d wanna be on SNL

    * Day Job: I’m a full time musician baby!

    * Most proud moment: Every day I wake up grateful that I get to do what I love for a living. So my most proud moment would definitely be the day that I decided to commit to chasing my dreams; it has lead me to where I am today, and I cannot wait to see where it takes me next!

    * Crazy thing that happened in your music career: I played the biggest festival of my career last summer (2021) out in Minnesota to about 20,000 people! It still feels like a fever dream but I’m pretty sure it happened (and if it didn’t, then I’d need to know where my Mom got her festival t-shirt from).

    * Other things you like to do: I love just about anything to do with the outdoors. My sister and I do a lot of climbing and hiking, and I love a good backpacking or camping trip! I’m a huge fan of ice hockey as well (GO BRUINS) and eating food that I didn’t have to cook.

    * Fun facts:  I have seen almost every episode of 90 Day Fiance, and I am impressively bad at math and numbers…
