Kruser’s Local Catch

Every once in a while you hear a song so fresh, so alluring, so stimulating that you take it out of the background and move it to the front. You have to listen with intent. You can’t help it. Then you have to listen again. That happened when I clicked on “Like Love Again” from the Boston-based band Copilot. It’s a fun piece of indie/pop. Copilot cooks up a rhythmically rich, massively melodic recipe that’s hard to put down.

Lead singer Maggie Quealy’s vocals are steering this ride with pure power. But it’s only as needed. There are times when she lets the foot off the gas, that’s when the vulnerability shines. And it’s beautiful. But when the band needs to accelerate, she is all in. This band has all cylinders firing, from the instrumentation to the lyrics and harmonies. Copilot has carved their own unique cloud in the bright blue sky of the music world. And it’s a lovely place to land.

  • The Song

Push play to hear Copilot’s latest release, “Like Love Again” According to the band, the song is about “that feeling where you’ve met someone really special but you’re scared to let your guard down after being hurt in a relationship. You have to break through that last bit of scar tissue from your last heartbreak.”
