Kruser’s Local Catch

The evolution of singer/songwriter, and New England favorite, Whitney Doucet is remarkable. For the years I’ve been following her music, she continues to grow and surprise. Every song brings something different to the table. My Local Catch of the Week, Whitney Doucet from Fitchburg recently shared her latest release, “Told Ya.” It showcases her versatility and growth. This one has a driving beat pop edge that brings all the summer car jam feels.

Nine years ago this summer, Doucet earned the right to sing a duet with Keith Urban, thanks to a contest on our station, Country 1025. She had submitted a video and won her way on stage to sing the Miranda Lambert part of “We Were Us.” That experience inspired her to continue her music career. You can see the video below.

Today, Whitney is an in-demand performer, with gigs all over New England. She and her band, the Moonshine Band, bring a high energy, fun vibe to the stage. Check out the dates to see Whitney Doucet, hear her new song and get to know her, here.

  • The Music

“Told Ya” is Whitney’s brand new song. She shared more about her latest original:

“This was the first song I ever wrote on my guitar! I was strumming along and the lyrics just came right out of me. It was so fun. I let the song create itself without much thought of what the song would become. It turned out to be a cool breakup song. And when I say “cool”, because I know most breakups aren’t cool, the storyteller in the song is pretty pleased with her decision to NOT get back together with her ex.  She recalls saying “Im dong alright and im just fine I thought I told ya?” And is ever so slightly rubbing it in the ex’s face that she’s absolutely dong A-OK without him! So its super fun and upbeat and I hope it can resonate with people or it can be the confidence that some people need to GET OVER him!”

“Told Ya” will be available everywhere on 4/21/23, but you can presave Whitney’s new song HERE.

  • The Story

    • From: Fitchburg
    • Now lives in: Fitchburg
    • Current single: TOLD YA
    • What lead you to music: I was always a music fan. The melodies and instruments and harmonies always made me FEEL whatever I was hearing and I wanted to be able to do the same for others.
    • First country song you learned: How do I Live by Leann Rimes! (This one takes me back, I remember hearing her sing it on TV as a kid, and I was MESMERIZED.)
    • How would you describe your sound: My sound has evolved over the years, but I think im in a fun upbeat country pop vibe at the moment. Although my writing style and true love belongs to a mix of  country-folk-pop!
    • Who inspires you: I am inspired by SO MANY PEOPLE! Let me start off by shouting out my guitar player and good friend Paulie Chlebecek is a huge  inspiration. He has such a good personality and attitude that at every gig his love for music and life inspires me to put on a GOOD show and share that good energy with the crowd. Country star wise, I am inspired by Kacey musgraves and Leann Rimes. I love Kaceys writing style on her Golden Hour Album, and Leann rimes just has a voice of a goddess.
    • News: Recently co-wrote a song that has been featured in an episode of Ginny and Georgia on NETFLIX, also wrote a song for Love Is Blind
    • Dream duet partner: Steven Tyler
    • All- time favorite country songs: “Cry” by Faith Hill, “Days Go By”- Keith Urban, “My Maria” by Brooks & Dunn
    • First country concert: LEANN RIMES! This was literally the BEST day ever.
    • If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: Probably some sort of graphic design, or a dog walker
    • Day Job: Singing Teacher at Patrice Peris Voice Studios
    • Most proud moment:  Singing a duet with Keith Urban still stands tall in my proudest moments list!
    • Crazy thing that happened in your music career: Getting a call from Country 1025 saying that I was chosen to sing with Keith Urban! No joke. It was the craziest moment. That day, I got home from work and talked with my mom about how I don’t know if I will continue singing, I just had a lot of unfortunate encounters so I took at nap, woke up and had a missed call from Boston and a voice mail. That call saved me from making a HUGE mistake. <3
    • Other things you like to do: I’m the crazy bird watcher lady. I talk to all my friends moms about the birds in their yards. HAHA. (Bald EAGLES OMG LOVE THEM lol)  I like bowling with my husband and our friends in the winter, and I have WON a few times believe it or not. (When we win we get to choose where lunch is the next weekend!) I just like to enjoy myself as much as I can! Whatever we’re doing I want to experience the joys of life.
    • Fun facts: I was a dog groomer for 10 years. I won a couple Fishing derbies as a kid!
    • Mantra: Have fun and be grateful for EVERYTHING you have.
