Scammers and spammers and MC Hammers oh my! (Sorry Hammer, I needed a third to make that work.) I get so many spam and scam calls nowadays. So much so that my phone doesn’t even ring anymore. Apple thinks every call that comes in could be a scam or spam or MC Hammer so it now sends everything directly to voicemail.
Secure Data Recovery conducted an analysis of search trends across the 50 US states to determine where people are most susceptible to scams. And Massachusetts, this is a Top 10 list we shouldn’t celebrate making. (But still, Top 10 wooohooooo! Sorry.) See where we finished below.
The study also gives us some good intel to look out for. Like the top 5 brands most frequently associated with scams, they are Facebook, PayPal, Cash App, Amazon, and Geek Squad so always be sure you’re actually interacting with those brands if and when they reach out to you. Many times it could be a scammer in sheep’s clothing.
Massachusetts finished at #2 on the “States Most Affected By (Online) Shopping Scams” list so absolutely be vigilant while online shopping. If something looks weird, it probably is. Always look for things that don’t seem right.
