Kate thought she found a great guy who “owned a transportation company”. But it turns out that was his way of saying he’s an Uber driver. Now she thinks he’s not good enough for her. Would you continue to date someone who said he’s a small business owner if you found out he’s an Uber driver?
Ayla Brown: Good morning, everyone. Good morning to Kate. You might be driving to work right now or you might be in an Uber or Lyft or something. And if so, even more top of the morning to you. Hi, Kate. Tell me about what happened with your Uber guy.
Kate: Hi. Good morning. I was out with a friend the other night and this guy came up to me and he’s really good looking like he has a lot of confidence. And he just came, approached both of us, and was very attentive to me and asked me out like, wow.
Ayla Brown: Like in real life, like, not on a dating app. Like someone actually, physically. This is like a new phenomenon. I’ve never heard of this before. Someone actually walking up to a person and talking to them.
Kate: Exactly. A dream come true. I love it. There was no hesitation, right up to me, it was really kind of hot. And so he asked me out, asked me to dinner, takes me to this lovely spot. It was a great first date. We’re kind of getting to know each other. And he asked about what I do. I’m in finance. I work in Boston, so I asked him what he does. He says he owns a transportation company. I mean, this sounds like someone who’s got his stuff together. And I’m getting excited about it. And I’m sharing this with my friends. They’re like, wow, He sounds like a great fit.
Ayla Brown: Let me just pretend I’m your friend. And you’re telling me Oh my God, this guy just came up to me in real life. He asked me out on a date. He took me to a really nice place. And then he owns his own company. That’s incredible. Okay, then what happened? I feel like this is going to take a downfall.
Kate: So on our second date, we get a little more into the detail. He doesn’t own a transfer transportation company. He’s an Uber driver. And it’s like a whole different thing, bro. He’s clearly struggling.
Ayla Brown: But is he? I mean, maybe he works many hours to be able to take you or other women out on fancy dates.
Kate: I don’t love that he lied.. Also, like I would have never ever gone out with a guy that had I known had he been straightforward with me in the first place.
Ayla Brown: Why wouldn’t you? Why wouldn’t you?
Kate: I mean, I’m in finance like I have standards.
