Terry’s softball team has attracted an unwanted “super fan”. An lonely older man who lives nearby comes to all of their games even though no one knows him and has “adopted” them as his team. He was annoying, but was mostly harmless, until he caused a fight at their last game that cost them a penalty. Now its time for this “super fan” to go. But how do they tell this man he’s not welcome?
Ayla Brown: And good morning, Terry. Okay, let’s get down to it. Let’s help you out. What happened at the softball field?
Terry: Yeah. So we’ve got this guy who has been hanging out with us, is a fan of our team, and we can’t shake him off.
Ayla Brown: Are you an exceptional softball team?
Terry: No. I mean, I like to see us as that, but, you know, we’re just playing for the summer. And, you know, it’s weekly and we’ve been going hard. It gets real competitive. We’ve got like a little league of our own going on, you know? But we’ve got this guy, Roger, He shows up, he’s been supportive. He’s been our big cheerleader, but he’s been kind creepy, though.
Ayla Brown: And is he on your team?
Terry: He thinks he is. He’s not though.
Ayla Brown: So sad. So he’s a fan of your summer league softball team and he just shows up to your games?
Terry: Yeah, he’s an older dude. You know, He’s probably just wants to have a team, too, just want some friends or something. But here’s the kicker, right? Recently he got in an argument with the other team. And it got so heated, he almost got in a fight. And the umpire actually penalized us because of him.
Ayla Brown: So Roger thinks he’s part of the team. He gets very passionate. He’s probably yelling at the other team after a play. And the umpire was like, your team has been penalized and Terry, you’re like, what is up with this guy? He’s always around. He’s not actually on our team and now he’s causing us to be penalized.
Terry: Well, even worse, he straight up got in a fight with someone on the other team. Like a team person..
Ayla Brown: Right, Right. No, I get it.
Terry: Yeah, it’s not good. It’s not cool. So I don’t know how to break it to him. He can’t hang out with us anymore. He can’t come. It’s kind of sticky. It’s a sticky situation a little bit.
Ayla Brown: But at the same time, if you don’t know him, is it that mean to just say, Hey, dude, this is a closed game. I guess it’s out in public so anyone can come cheer you on? That’s a good question.
