Rob’s ten year old son has decided he’s too cool to trick or treat with his dad for Halloween this year and wants to go with a bunch of friends without any parents. But Rob just doesn’t think he’s ready for that. At what age did your kid become too cool to trick or treat with you? Is ten years old too young to go out with friends?
Jonathan: And we’ve got Rob on the line. Hey, Rob.
Rob: Hey. How are you doing?
Jonathan: Fantastic. You’re having a problem with your kid wanting to go trick or treating?
Rob: Yes. My son is ten years old, and he asked me if he could go trick or treating without me or my wife this year.
Jonathan: Okay. Is he going by himself? The only kid out there. Trick or Treating by himself.
Rob: He would have his group of friends.
Ayla: How many are going with him?
Rob: I think there’s four of them. Okay.
Jonathan: Okay.
Rob: Yeah. They’re all around the same age. They all go to school together. And all the other parents say that they’re fine with it. We don’t live in a bad neighborhood. It’s not the best. You know, It’s not perfect. But it’s not a terrible neighborhood. But still, even with all that, I just don’t feel comfortable with it. And I just wanted to hear some other takes on it because in this day and age, so many things on the news of what’s happening and people getting kidnaped, people throwing things into candy, all the terrible things that you hear. I don’t know if I feel comfortable at ten years old. I went at the time with my family until I was probably 13 or 14.
Jonathan: So you were a loser?
Ayla: I was a loser, too.
Jonathan: You were trick or treating when you were 13.
Ayla: My mom’s coming trick or treating with me this year. I’m 35.
Jonathan: She doesn’t trust you on your own.
Ayla: She’s worried about my safety.
Jonathan: It doesn’t surprise me. All right, well, it’s time to decide, Rob, whether or not you’re insane and overprotective of your kid, but the audience can definitely let us know. Rob’s problem is his kid wants to go trick or treating at ten years old with his friends. Rob doesn’t think in this day and age that’s a good idea. Somebody could kidnap him, take his candy, or I guess the kids could get into something or the candy might just be poisoned. What do you think? Do you think that he’s overprotective for not wanting his kid out trick or treating with just him and his friends without their parents? Rob, thank you so much.
Rob: Thanks for having me.
