Vicki’s wife has taken up writing poetry as a hobby but won’t show it to her. One day she snooped and read some of it. And she was shocked to find that it is clearly about her ex. Now Vicki is still worried that her wife is still in love with her ex-girlfriend. Should Vicki be freaked out about the poetry about her ex? Or is this not a big deal as long as she doesn’t act on it?
Ayla Brown: And good morning, Vicki. How are you? What is going on? Please tell me about the problem with an iPad.
Vicki: Okay. I’m not great, honestly. So my wife has picked up a little hobby recently. She said that she’s been really into writing poetry and she’ll spend tons of time on her iPad writing. It’s nice. She gets a cup of tea and she sits out on the deck and she spends all this time with it. It’s right. It’s lovely. And so I had asked her, because I’m trying to engage with what she’s passionate about. And I’m like, can I take a peek? And she’s like, No, no, no, no. I don’t want you to see it. It’s private. I’m embarrassed. No, this is this is just for me. This is just for me. And I respect that. Right. Okay, sure. Well, so the other day she was gone and her iPad was sitting out, and I swear I wasn’t snooping. It was just sitting there. Right. And a notification came up or something like that. So, the screen kind of lit up. So well, I’m just going to see. I just wanted to see just how much she’d written. So I opened up the notes app. And she’d written a ton. But I just kind of assumed it would be about me or our dog or something. But it’s very clearly, I would say 95% of it is about her ex.
Ayla Brown: No!
Vicki: Yeah. There’s no way it’s not specifically about her.
Ayla Brown: How do you know? Like, how do you know?
Vicki: There’s references to this magical trip they took to the Bahamas.
Ayla Brown: Oh, gosh.
Vicki: And her ex had bright red hair. So there’s all these references to the color of her hair. Things like that. I know that they do have red hair. I know I have brown hair. Brown.
Ayla Brown: Heck. So that must have made you feel really crappy just seeing all this stuff that wasn’t about you and clearly about someone else.
Vicki: Yeah, honestly, I’m devastated. I’m devastated. I always had kind of worried about that she was maybe hung up on this relationship. It was a significant one when she was younger. .
Ayla Brown: And you guys are married? You and your wife.
Vicki: Were married. We have a house. We have a dog. We’ve got two cats. I mean, we are a family. Yeah, we’re married. And I thought happily.
Ayla Brown: But it’s just artistic expression.
Vicki: I don’t know though, because, I mean, I’m serious. 95% of it was about this woman. This other woman. She’s thinking about it. I’m wondering what to do, because I also know that I’m the one that snooped I didn’t mean to, you know, but she had asked me explicitly not to look.
Ayla Brown: Like Pandora’s box. It’s like Adam and Eve. What? The apple, the temptation right there. You admit you were the one that went through the iPad, so we know that you’re in the wrong in that. But are your feelings wrong?
