Lately, there hasn’t been a lot to cheer about with our Boston Red Sox. Finding a glimmer of positivity is essential for the tried and true fans, like me. So, here we go! We needed a break from the bad, and we got it in the All Star break, which frankly, couldn’t come soon enough considering the slide they’ve been on.  Good news: We get to see  3 of our favorite Red Sox players in the All Star Game, baseball’s Midsummer Classic tonight!

Get ready to cheer on these 3 amigos… Rafael Devers, J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts! They will represent the Boston Red Sox in the American League, coached by Houston Astros’ manager Dusty Baker. The National League will be coached by the Atlanta Braves’ manager, Brian Snitker. This year’s competition will take place at Dodger Stadium in L.A.  Game time is 7:00 ET tonight (Tuesday 7/19/22) and can be watched on TV on Fox , or you can stream it from Fox, who has exclusive broadcast rights.

Let’s get take a closer look at these 3 marquee players who call Boston home during the season.

  • Rafael Devers

Oakland Athletics v Boston Red Sox

Here’s a fun fact about the 25 year old Devers, who is starting in his 2nd consecutive All Star Game:

Devers is a left-handed slugger, who has impressed so many of us since coming to Boston in 2017, including Big Papi, David Ortiz.  Born in the Dominican, Raffy loves playing in Boston and it shows in a smile that’s a big as his bat. He grew up with the nickname, Carita, which means babyface. And that he does. The third baseman is a clubhouse and fan favorite, and let’s just hope the Sox brass do the right thing and sign his contract extenstion ASAP! Devers has one more year of arbitration left before he’s eligible for free agency after the 2023 season.

  • J.D. Martinez

New York Yankees v Boston Red Sox

This isn’t the first rodeo for Julio Daniel Martinez from Miami, Florida. Our big DH is an All Star for the 4th time in his 5 years with the Sox. But this time he’s in as a replacement for injured Houston Astros’ Yardan Alvarez.

Martinez didn’t opt out of his Red Sox contract, which will have him earning  $19.35 million  this year, the last season of his 5 year contract, according to NBC Sports. J.D. signed with the Sox prior to his 2018 season.

  • Xander Bogaerts

Chicago White Sox v Boston Red Sox

Bogey has been here longer than any player on the 2022 team, he’s proven himself to be consistent, clutch and clearly talented in the field and at base. So why haven’t the Sox shown the love to the 29 year old Aruban who’s been with them since 2013? Papi posed the same question to Xander on Fox Sports yesterday, only much more eloquently.
