Kenny Chesney Wrote His First Song To Get A Girl And It Totally Bombed
Kenny Chesney is a country music megastar, but he’s also a respected songwriter. His first attempt wasn’t very successful, however, as he revealed during a recent appearance on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers.
The Tennessee native was taking a persuasion class in college when he decided to persuade the girl sitting next to him to go out on a date. To make it happen, Kenny decided to write her a song. “I put it down on a cassette … and took it to class the next day … and slid it to her,” he tells the host to laughter. “Didn’t say anything, didn’t even look at her.”
Class eventually ended and the two went their separate ways. “I walked into to class the next day and she was sitting in the far corner of the [room]. It was literally my first taste of rejection in the music business.”
Kenny tells that story, explains his recent efforts to save animals near his home in St. John, and talks about the importance of reaching fans in the farthest corners of the stadiums he plays. Watch it all in the clip above.
