This Legendary Director Thinks Netflix Movies Don’t Deserve Oscars
Netlfix has big plans for 2018.
With Netflix dominating the online streaming business after releasing 50 original films last year alone, they are looking to up the ante in 2018 with nearly 80 films, according to Complex.
In a recent interview with ITV News, the legendary Steven Spielberg, gave his thoughts on just where Netflix stands as a platform between movies in theatres and television movies.
“I don’t believe that films that are given token qualifications, in a couple of theaters for less than a week, should qualify for Academy Award nominations. Once you commit to a television format, you’re a TV movie. If it’s a good show, you deserve an Emmy. But not an Oscar.”
Now it’s hard to point out just why Spielberg is wrong if you disagree with him. He indeed has a point about Netflix and their service, but I personally don’t know where I would stand on the matter. For me, a movie is a movie, no matter where I watch it.
What do you think about the matter?
