Catch Of The Week: Gabby Patrice
Meet: Gabby Patrice from Hingham!
There are many talented artists who come into our studios, so many names you hear of local artists being featured in this segment. And there are some that come into perform, who literally have me in awe. Gabby Patrice is in that category. She has all the right ingredients to be a star: Talent, first and foremost, and a voice that stands out from the crowd. Her rasp and inflections grab your attention. She has a confidence that’s infectious. She has power, drive… and seems to be having a great time at her job. Lastly, she comes across as “authentic.” A down to earth, nice person who is eager to please. That authenticity resonates in her music. That makes her message believable. And that makes all the difference.
I asked Gabby what lead her to music. Her answer: “When I was in my mother’s womb, I was breach. The nurse told my mom to try playing music so that my head would move towards it. And it did! Growing up in a family of 13, there were a lot of car rides that were full and loud and crazy. For as long as I can remember I always had my headphones in.” Gabby has been doing theater, jazz, tap, hip- hop and writing since middle school. She was also very involved in sports, and didn’t start playing guitar until junior year of high school. Playing lacrosse in college took most of her time away from music, so it wasn’t until after graduation that she really pursued music as a career.
Gabby Patrice Performs
Lights, camera, action in the Country 102.5 Studio. All eyes and ears on the artist who encompasses many musical genres. People have compared her to Colbie Caillat and Amy Winehouse, but Gabby definitely has her own, unique sound. She is joined by her long-time friend, and super talented guitarist, Sam August.
Gabby just dropped a brand new single. It’s called “Bad Girl”
This South Shore native is back and forth from Nashville a lot… “Red Eye” is the name of this original.
Here’s the official, just released studio recording of Gabby’s “Bad Girl”
Gabfest
- Biggest Influences: My faith, my family, Taylor Swift, Hailee Steinfeld, Alanis Morrisette, Jewel, and Halsey
- All-time favorite country song: “Wild Child” by Kenny Chesney. I need to find that girl and be friends with her
- Favorite country concert: I have a friend that plays in Luke Combs band, so I’m not sure if this is biased, but it made my heart so incredibly happy to watch him and the band play for so many people after all the hard work! It made me believe that good things come to hard working artists that never give up!
- First country concert: Kenny Chesney at Gillette
- Has opened for: David Nail, Parmalee, Dalton and the Sheriffs
- If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: Acting, for sure. I took acting classes, right before I moved to Nashville. I was given the choice to go to a call back in New York City that was limited to 5% of us, or move to Nashville. I chose Nashville. I did appear as an extra on the show Nashville, and have been in several music videos.
- Most proud moment: I moved to Nashville on my own. I had never co-written and was definitely not sure what I was going to do in order to make myself known. I put together a night of songwriters at the Listening Room in Nashville. For the last song, usually the artists thanks the host for having them, and I was the host. The words that came out of these artists brought me to tears. Things like, “Gabby is one of the nicest people in this industry and she only wants what is best for every artist,” or “if you don’t know Gabby you should know her before she has completely taken over Nashville.” Hearing those words on stage while so many people were watching made me proud to know that a simple girl from New England that gave up all she ever knew could come to Nashville and make a name for herself not only as an artist but also as a hard working, kind, hustler in the industry. I will never forget that night and felt like I was exactly where I belonged
- Fun facts: I am the 10th child in a family of 13, and the only one with blue eyes. I played lacrosse in college and now coach in Tennessee
