Darius Rucker On A Decade In Country Music: “I Wasn’t Expecting Any Success”
We found out Saturday night at 9pm – less than 24 hours before he took the stage – that Darius Rucker would be joining us as a special guest at Country 102.5 Street Party 2 this year.
Carolyn Kruse caught up with Darius backstage at Street Party, fresh off his tour bus, and fresh off a show at Xfinity Center in Mansfield the night before.
Darius Rucker On Hurricane Florence
When not touring, Darius calls Charleston, South Carolina home; and while his hometown didn’t get hit directly by the latest hurricane, he is very aware of the difficulties his neighbors directly to the north have been facing in the wake of Florence.
“We got lucky,” Darius told Kruser. “I feel really bad for all those folks in North Carolina that got hit really bad, I wanna do something for them, and I’m sure we will. We got lucky.”
Darius Rucker On His Country Career
It’s been a decade since the former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman started out in country music, now he’s a household name in the genre, playing arenas and headlining tours.
“I wasn’t expecting any success,” he said. “I was just glad I was making country records. My real goal was, ‘I hope they let me make another one.’ I’ve made more country records than I’ve made Hootie records!”
