Planters Announces: “Mr. Peanut Has Died” at 104 Years-Old
The most famous top-hat-and-monocle-wearing peanut has apparently died… according to the company he has iconically been a spokesnut for for years. In a statement, Planters says “It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that Mr. Peanut has died at 104. In the ultimate selfless act, he sacrificed himself to save his friends when they needed him most. Please pay your respects with #RIPeanut.”
And people have taken to social media to pay their respects – including another iconic spokesperson, Mr. Clean:
Always classy, always crunchy, always cleaned up nicely. We'll miss him! #RIPeanut pic.twitter.com/wtNQrFerBF

Surely this will lead to some sort of Superbowl commercial so keep your eyes peeled. But until then #RIPeanut, Mr. Peanut. Had we ever met in person I definitely would have tried to eat you.
We’re devastated to confirm that Mr. Peanut is gone. He died doing what he did best – having people’s backs when they needed him most. #RIPeanut pic.twitter.com/12PyWYJB7J
