Norwell Teen Making A Difference: Making Care Packages For Healthcare Workers
One caring and enterprising 19 year old Norwell resident is making the most of her quarantine time!
We’ve all seen the television coverage of nurses, technicians and doctors in hospitals working extra shifts, endangering themselves and their families to help others, wearing masks for hours on end. Most of us have wanted to help, but how?
Kenzie Higgins’ thoughts turned to action! She had seen enough. Her heart was telling her all these workers needed to be shown appreciation, so she started making gift packages and delivering them to Mass General Hospital. Chocolates, lip balm, energy bars, lotions, and all kinds of “care” items are included in Higgins’ care packages. Kenzie told WBZ-TV4, “I just wanted to give materials and pampering items and little snack items to just make them feel more appreciated and make their day just a little bit easier and a little more feeling loved.”
The efforts of all healthcare workers hit home for Kenzie. Her aunt Lauren Antoine is a Mass General radiology technician. Higgins relayed to WBZ,“It was tough to see my aunt come home to her two girls and really have a tough day with corona and with having the mask on all day and just be super tired.”
Since starting her gift basket campaign, Kenzie has seen an outpouring of care and donations from the community! You can still donate, and just so you know she thoroughly sanitizes everything twice, and lets it sit for about a week before delivering the goodies to the hospital.
The world could use a lot more Kenzies. Thank you for your heart, your ideas and your action. Well done, Kenzie!
