How to Help Fight Early-Onset Parkinson’s Disease
Looking at a picture of David, just 38 years old from Longmeadow, MA you’d think he was perfectly healthy. You’d NEVER guess that just over a year ago he was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s….a neurological disorder that has taken the lives of so many people,.
As it stands today, there’s still NO cure for Parkinson’s…. and 6 million people suffer from it. This year in the U.S. alone, there will be approximately 60,000 NEW cases.
It’s most famous survivor is Hollywood actor Michael J Fox, who has a Foundation for Parkinson’s Research– and their goal is to find a cure. And now Fox’s Foundation is getting help from David!
Two years ago when David found out that he has this disease, he started “Team Silver Linings” — a group of friends and family who raise money for Parkinson’s research by participating in runs and bicycle rides. Last year they raised more than 32-thousand dollars – enough to fund a clinical trial!
Unfortunately, because of Covid-19, Like so many other activities, This year’s 50-mile New England Parkinson’s Ride — which his team had planned to participate in– will only take place virtually. The Silver lining?? David and his team will STILL be able to participate and raise money – but they won’t actually be taking to the road. It will be a virtual ride!
Now they’re looking for people who want to join their team and participate on September 12th in their virtual ride. Parkinson’s has affected David’s mobility and dexterity, but he says he will continue to run and ride and raise money…as long as he can and while he’s still ABLE, raising money for Parkinson’s research.
