For the First Time Ever This Year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Will Be TV-Only
Another iconic yearly tradition is being scrapped because of the coronavirus pandemic. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is being re-invented as a TV-only experience this year due to the pandemic.
For almost 100 years, the parade has marched through the heart of Midtown, right up to Macy’s. This year things will be a lot different but viewers will be able to “feel the spirit and joy of that day” on television and online, according to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“This year the celebration will shift to a television only special presentation, showcasing the Macy’s Parade’s signature mix of giant character helium balloons, fantastic floats, street performers, clowns and heralding the arrival of the holiday season with the one-and-only Santa Claus,” Macy’s said in a statement.
