After 2 Year COVID Hiatus, One of the Funniest New England Traditions Returns This Week
Funny that this is a sign that we’re getting closer to “normal” than we have been for the past couple years. St. Peter’s Fiesta returns to Gloucester this weekend and with it returns one of New England’s wackiest yearly traditions – the “Greasy Pole” competition.
If you haven’t seen the competition, it’s a riot and I’ve placed a couple videos below so you can get a feel. Basically competitors try to run down a 40-foot greased pole and attempt to retrieve the flag at the end before barreling into Gloucester Harbor below. That’s it! And it’s amazing.
