SURVEY: 1 in 5 Adults Choosing to Be ‘Childfree’
Are you planning on NEVER having kids? You’re not alone.
A new study, which is set to be published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, surveyed over 200 Michigan adults and found that the majority of childfree adults are white, single, college-educated women.
Interestingly, the study also found that most childfree adults don’t regret their decision – even as they get older. In fact, when asked if they would have kids if they could go back in time, only 12% said they would change their minds.
So why are more and more people choosing not to have kids? The reasons vary, but many say it’s simply because they don’t want them. Others cite financial reasons or say they want to focus on their careers. Some even say they’re worried about the state of the world and don’t want to bring children into it.
Whatever the reason, it’s clear that more and more adults are choosing to be childfree – and they’re happy with their decision.
The study found some interesting trends among those who choose not to have kids. For example, most of them made the decision when they were young – in their teens or twenties. This suggests that it’s not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but something that people think about for a long time before they make the choice.
The study also found that those who choose not to have kids are more likely to be single and never married. This makes sense, as many people enter into relationships and marriages with the assumption that they will have children someday. If you don’t want children, you’re less likely to get married or stay married.
