See A 12 Foot Great White Shark Getting Tagged In Chatham
Shark sightings have become part of Cape Cod life in recent years. And this year, there have been several beach closings due to sharks being spotted near shore, in fact Head of the Meadown Beach in Truro was closed just a few days ago for this reason. But this is a first. The first Great White Shark of the 2022 season was spotted and tagged in Chatham on Friday.
The sharks are tagged and the info is then entered into the Sharktivity app, which will let beachgoers know their recent locations. Probably a good app to add if you are headed to the Cape. Afterall, knowledge is power, and as the Boy Scouts preach, “be prepared.”
The first Great White Shark of the season tagged in Chatham clocked in at a whopping 12 feet long. Accoding to the AWSC’s Instagram post, Dr. Greg Skomal of Massachusetts Marine Fisheries did the honors of tagging this great white, who was apparently located off the Chatham north inlet. The AWSC or Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is a non profit that supports reseach, education and public safety,
Talk about a big catch!
This story brings to mind the famous line from the original Jaws movie: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat!”
Hey, guess what movie just happened to be on TV last night?
