Not long after announcing she was leaving country music, Maren Morris filed for divorce from her husband and fellow country singer Ryan Hurd. The couple have been married for five and a half years. They married in March of 2018 and have a three-year-old son, Hayes.

Morris filed for divorce on October 2 in the Davidson County Circuit Court Clerk's office. The divorce documents say that Maren cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. The documents also state that Morris and Hurd had a prenuptial agreement on file before their wedding. Also, in the court documents, the couple is seeking joint custody of Hayes.

The couple met as songwriters in Nashville. In 2021, Morris joined Hurd on his ballad "Chasing After You," which was nominated for Music Video and Musical Event for the CMA Awards that same year. Hurd also appeared on Morris' 2022 single "I Can't Love You Anymore."

Three weeks ago, Maren announced a few new songs that would not be country music and said she was leaving the genre. Ryan posted a photo of the project and voiced his support on Instagram. He wrote in the lengthy post of his wife, "She deserves to be celebrated, not just tolerated. I love the response from people who don't just love these two songs; they needed them. I knew it would strike a chord. Most people would just shut up and keep collecting the paycheck because the wave of vitriol is real, and it's hard. I'm so sick of watching my wife get the s--- kicked out of her by the internet. I'm sick of every talking head having some kind of stupid opinion about what she says. It's the same every time; why are you surprised when she calls out something racist or homophobic?"

He continued, "I'm sick of people getting rewarded for it. To me, the Bridge is beautiful, and so rock and roll. She deserves a little sunshine for the burden she has carried for every artist and fan that feels the same way. I can't wait for that first tour and to see all of the smiling and beautiful people who needed these songs and also need HER. I can't wait to make music that follows the same path, whatever that is. Feel free to leave a comment below to express your hatred or love for whatever I said; they will be duly noted, filed, sorted, and discarded. Love you, MM. Keep on keepin' on."

Maren Morris has spent the last ten years making waves in country music with hit songs, Grammy awards, and headlining concert tours.

Many pre-teen and teenage girls sing along with her songs at her shows, and she takes the role model role very seriously. Maren told us recently , "Yeah, I meet a lot of young girls at my shows in the crowd, and they're always so sweet. I try to give them my guitar picks when I walk by. I hope they go and play guitar."

She recalls her musical role model when she was just a girl. "I remember my first concert being LeAnn Rimes and just being so in awe of her. And I think I was eight or nine years old, and just looking up to her and thinking, 'Wow, someday that could be me.' [That] kind of responsibility is a huge deal to me."

That got even bigger for her when she had her son Hayes in 2020, "Now that I'm a parent, even though I have a boy, I feel like through my words, through my lyrics, through my activism, like whatever I'm doing. Young girls are seeing it. Young kids are seeing it, and hopefully, they're being inspired to just be themselves and not water themselves down or dim their light in any way."

As she celebrates her 33rd birthday today (4/10), we take a look at eleven songs that secured her success in country music and beyond.

11. "80s Mercedes" - (2016)

It was her second single, following the powerful “My Church.” Maren co-wrote and co-produced the song with the late great producer Busbee during a session where they traded ideas about their numerous influences from that era.

10. "Craving You" (Thomas Rhett featuring Maren Morris) - (2017)

It’s hard to go wrong with a duet with Thomas Rhett. Maren contributed vocals on the song and recorded her parts in an hour. Morris almost didn’t make it to the final release, as Rhett initially wasn’t sure that it was "really a duet song." We’re glad he reconsidered.

9. "The Middle" (with Zedd and Grey) - (2018)

Dance music superstar Zedd said that working with Maren Morris was "super fun because she is clearly an amazing singer and very talented musician." This song introduced her to the pop world.

8. "Girl" - (2019)

Just a solid song from the CMA Award winning album of the same name that year (2020). The song reached a peak of Number One on the Billboard Country Airplay chart on August 3, 2019.

7. "I Could Use a Love Song" - (2017)

Couldn’t we all use a love song now and then? It’s also a no-frills heartbreak song that gives us all hope.

6. "You All Over Me (From the Vault)" (Taylor Swift featuring Maren Morris) - (2021)

It’s from the “Taylor’s version” of “Fearless,” where Swift re-recorded her old albums, including the outtakes.
