Mick Jagger and Lainey Wilson: What’s Behind Their Surprising Text Exchange?
Lainey Wilson is a force. And she comes by it honestly. In all my years in country music, I don’t know that I’ve seen another woman work her way to the top with such ferocity. That’s why we were so excited to get a couple minutes with Lainey to chat about what makes her tick. You can listen to our conversation below.
We here on The Andie Summers Show were first introduced to this modern-day-phenom during the pandemic in 2020. The world was on lockdown and Christmas was approaching. All we could think bout was how we cold make this holiday season special, even if everyone had to spend it in the same four walls they had been staring at for the past nine months. So we called in some favors with Broken Bow Records and put together a virtual Christmas Concert that our listeners could enjoy from home. Proceeds benefitted a cause that is near and dear to our hearts, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Lainey Wilson was one of the first new artists to jump at the chance to play for an audience, albeit through the lens of a camera. And she blew us away. This was our first introduction to Lainey, and we knew from those first notes that it wouldn’t be the last.
Lainey Wilson’s Rise to Fame
Since then, Lainey has made her way into the playlists and hearts of country fans all around the world. In four short years, she went from someone loved by her family to someone adored by the masses. And for good reason. Lainey embodies what it is to be a country star. She is truly authentic; and you can’t help but fall into her grace.
To be fair, we all realize that there are no true overnight successes in this business. Those four years between when Lainey appeared in our Christmas special and her sitting atop the country music world, were short compared to the years of singing, touring, and scraping by just trying to get noticed.
And to prove she “has arrived,” we asked Lainey a few questions about what her life is really like as opposed to what we perceive. Her responses are not what we expected.
What has been the most exciting, or most surprising experience so far?
Lainey was quick to answer this one. It’s the relationship she has built with one of the biggest rock stars in the history of the world … Mick Jagger! He actually texted her about her how much he is enjoying her new album, “Whirlwind” (available now!).
What is the hardest thing about being Lainey Wilson?
Lainey was a little demure answering this one. As though she knew the answer, but was cautious not to whine about this amazing life she has built. The bottom line, though, is that Lainey is just like us. The hardest thing is making sacrifices. As we all do, she was quick to point out. Lainey’s schedule and celebrity does not allow her to get to all the birthday parties, weddings, and even funerals that her heart wishes she could attend.
What can you tell us about your role in the next season of Yellowstone?
We know Lainey is supposed to perform an on-camera concert as her Yellowstone character Abby. The show is scheduled in Texas and those in the know say more people signed up to be extras for that show than they’ve ever seen. Lainey was pretty tight lipped about what is to come with her character or anything in the next season, but we can tell she is excited!
