A live-action Pac-Man movie is reportedly being made by Bandai Namco Entertainment
(“Why not? Someone just made a billion dollars off of those little thumb guys who talk pure gibberish.” )
Yeah, these things
Bandai Namco is planning a live-action Pac-Man movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sonic the Hedgehog producer Chuck Williams reportedly pitched the film to Bandai Namco.
(“Hey I made a movie about an anthropomorphic blue ball of speed that no one wanted! Now I’ll make a movie about a yellow circle that eats ghosts! And next I’ll make a Pong movie probably!!!!” )
Sonic the Hedgehog’s involvement speaks volumes about the company’s ambitions. In 2020, the film broke the US video game movie record after earning $57 million during its opening weekend. Despite the pandemic, the film went on to earn $319 million two years later. Sonic 2 surpassed its predecessor’s high watermark with a $71 million US debut two years later. Clearly, Bandai Namco would like a similar result.
(“You know what would make a great movie? MicroSoft Word!!! Haven’t you always wondered about the origin of the Wingdings font? ✋︎ 🙵■︎□︎⬥︎ ✋︎ ♒︎♋︎❖︎♏︎✏︎✏︎✏︎”)
Of course, there have been a few TV adaptations of Pac-Man. There was the 1982–1983 Hanna–Barbera animation from the 1980s, which aired on ABC, and a 2013 addition to Disney XD.
But aside from cameo appearances in movies like Pixels, nobody has yet managed to make Pac-Man the star of a live-action feature.
