How Often To Reboot Our Cell Phones? Get Expert Advice Here
After yesterday’s AT&T cell phone outage fiasco, many of us were drawn to rethink our dependence. Didn’t you feel like you lost a limb? Luckily, service was restored to the likely hundreds of thousands of us affected. This unfortunate event caused me to think about my phone, in general, and how to take better care to ensure it’s at optimal functioning. The question popped up in my head, “how often to reboot our cell phones?” Get expert advice here.
Oh, it’s not me giving you advice. Trust me, I’m no expert. I searched the internet for those in the know. Here’s what I found. In an article in Reader’s Digest, they referred to a Los Angeles based tech consultant, Bob Motamedi. He insisted it all starts with the apps, saying, “In most cases, the app isn’t really closed but rather, it’s put into a state where it can be restarted faster.” Motamedi went on to advise that those apps eat memory and battery power. Some days your cell battery drains much faster than other days. It’s been devoured by your apps. Rebooting, that is turning off and restarting your phone cleans any open apps and “memory leaks.” It’s also recommended that we let our batteries drain to 0 for ideal performance.
Here’s How Often To Reboot
Rule of thumb, according to the article and Mr. Motamedi, is to reboot once a week. Make sure you shut it down for at least one minute before turning it back on. Apparently this helps your cell’s memory and prolong it’s battery life. It also prevents crashing and makes the device operate more smoothly. All good things. Forget electronics, this is something we humans all need! A little rest from work, computers, cells and multitasking is essential to our “batteries.”
So, know we know how often to reboot our cell phones from expert advice, here. Is this something you practice on a regular? I’m going to set an alarm in my calendar and give this once a week restart thing a shot. While I’m at it, I think I’ll set another alarm to reboot myself once a week.
