Mass Ice Cream Shop Offers Free Cone For Kids That Recite The Pledge Of Allegiance
Eskimo King in Swansea is offering kids a free ice cream cone to kids that can recite the National Anthem. This great American stunt started on the 4th of July and continues through the end of the month.
We have to salute them for this awesome idea because kids should know the pledge of allegiance and recite by rote. These days it is far less common that kids can recite it because most schools no longer require students to learn it.
If you were born over let’s say 40 or so years ago, you probably grew up having to start your school day reciting it. For some reason it has become a less popular thing to do and we don’t know why. Is it because the pledge of allegiance considered to be too patriotic?
According to Eskimo King there’s a good reason for doing the pledge of allegiance
Participants at Eskimo King can choose from a free chocolate, vanilla, coffee or twist cone for their efforts, topped with red, white and blue sprinkles.
Employees say the owner, Nancy, started participating because she wanted to encourage kids to show their pride for their country, especially as some schools have stopped requiring students to recite the pledge in classrooms.
“The world that we live in today I think it’s really nice to keep patriotism alive in America and I know one of the reasons the owner Nancy wanted to keep this going, after all these years, is because she believes in being proud to be an American,”
Now, this is something we can all agree on in this age of so much division, after all the pledge of allegiance is all about unity and love of the country.
If you’re a tad bit rusty here it is;
“…I pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america. And to the republic for which it stands. One nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all….”
Now take your kids to Eskimo King and let them show their stuff and they will get that free cone!
America!
