Camryn’s college age daughter told her that she is doing voiceover work for Japanese anime porn to make extra spending money. Camryn refuses to let her daughter do that for work, but she is still doing it. So Camryn cut off her college fund and won’t give her any money until she quits. Is Camryn right to be this upset? Is her daughter ruining her life by voicing anime porn? Or is she ruining her relationship with her daughter
Jonathan: And today for panic button, we have Camryn on who’s got a very harrowing and troubling problem. Camryn, what’s going on?
Camryn: Well, I have a daughter, and she’s in college. She’s 19 years old, and pretty strapped for cash, or so I thought. I recently found out that she’s doing something for money that I find pretty disgusting.
Jonathan: Okay. This sounds like it’s a little more serious than we usually do here, but what is she doing?
Camryn: Well, she told me I didn’t really want to tell you this, but I am making money by doing voiceover work.
Jonathan: That’s disgusting work. Oh, there’s more? Okay.
Camryn: Yes. She’s doing voiceover work for anime porn.
Jonathan: Oh, my gosh.
Camryn: Yeah
Jonathan: I don’t know what that is. I have no idea what that is. They draw it now? That’s crazy. So she pretends to be characters in pornography?
Camryn: Yes. She voices them over. She doesn’t actually do it, but still.
Jonathan: That would be a little disturbing, Again, I have no knowledge of these movies, but based on what I’ve heard happens in some of these movies, it would be kind of impossible. So she just does the voice work.
Camryn: She says that it’s art and she makes money and she wants to be an actor. But yeah, it just makes me sick to my stomach thinking about that.
Jonathan: Okay, I guess. So what’s your response to this? What are you doing?
Camryn: We told her that we think it’s disgusting, and we told her if she doesn’t stop, then we’re not going to continue to pay for her college.
Jonathan: Can I ask you a question? How do you know it’s disgusting? I mean, she said it was anime porn. I’m assuming she just told you flat out that it’s pornography. I don’t know. She could have said I’m doing Voices for Dragon Ball Z or something like that. Did she show you the movies or show you some of her work? Like her portfolio?
Camryn: No, no. But she’s my daughter, You know what I mean? My daughter does not need to be doing anything related to pornography.
Jonathan: Okay. But my point is, she flat out told you that it’s porn?
Camryn: Yes. And I told her that it’s embarrassing and disgusting. And so I went into her savings account that we have set aside for her college. And I took all of the money out, and I told her that she will not have access and she will not see any money in that account until she stops.
Jonathan: Wow. Okay. And what did she say?
Camryn: She was upset, but she has to learn that this is not a way to make money, and this is not one of them.
