Country Mornings with Jonathan & Ayla

What did the deceased do for a living? Tell a story about him or her. In this example the deceased was a teacher.

Vanessa is a teacher who has discount codes for teacher appreciation week. She just found out that her ex-husband, who she hates, has been using her codes to buy himself things like a new TV. Is Vanessa bitter enough to call him out on it? Is using a teacher appreciation discount code from your ex a big deal?

Ayla Brown: Good morning. This morning we have a teacher. I’m so excited. Good morning, Vanessa. First of all, thank you for being a teacher to our little ones. What grade do you teach? And just shout out to all the teachers out there?

Vanessa: Yeah. Hi. Thanks for having me. I teach first grade and yes, Teacher Appreciation Week. So shout out to all the teachers out there.

Ayla Brown: Oh, awesome. So that can’t be the only reason why you’re calling to ask me a question. What’s going on?

Vanessa: Okay, so I went through a divorce a couple of years ago. But we have a child. And since, you know, I’m a teacher and it’s Teacher Appreciation week, we have these discount codes that you can use at stores. Most stores participate like Lowe’s, Best Buy, etc.. And I actually use them with my husband for our child occasionally, you know, since we have a little one. But I actually found out recently that he’s still using these codes after our divorce. And usually, you know, if it’s for a kid like getting some school supplies, I wouldn’t really care. But he I actually found out recently that he bought a new TV through my son.

Ayla Brown: Wait. Okay, so backtrack. You found out that he was not just using these teacher discount codes for your son, but he bought a big screen TV. How did your how did you find out about that?

Vanessa: Yeah, I thought he was just getting my school supplies, but my son said that his dad got a new TV and I don’t know how he could have afforded that. And then he mentioned that he used some codes, which obviously couldn’t have come from himself.

Ayla Brown: How old is your son, If you don’t mind me asking? I’m just trying to get a visual here.

Vanessa: Yeah, he’s eight.

Ayla Brown: So he’s like, Oh, Mom, I love Dad’s new TV. Come on over and check it out. And you’re like, I’m sorry, What? New TV?

Vanessa: Yeah, exactly.

Ayla Brown: Okay, so now what? What are you going to do? Are you going to confront your husband or take it to more drastic measures? Because this is almost fraudulent, isn’t it, Using someone else’s codes? Is your ex-husband a teacher? Because if so, I apologize, then.

Vanessa: Absolutely not. I think it’s so unethical and I almost want to report it to the stores so that he can get caught. But yeah, I actually want to report him for fraud.

Ayla Brown: Okay. So you want to call wherever he got the TV and say, excuse me, you sold a television to someone who’s not a teacher, and so you need to make it right?

Vanessa: Yeah, exactly.
