Would you throw away the perfect guy if he gave away your Red Snapper?
Patricia brought her new boyfriend to meet her family at a fancy birthday dinner in the North End. Everyone loved him and it went great, until they went to leave. He called an Uber while she was saying goodbye and she handed him her leftover Red Snapper to hold. When she got in the car, he didn’t have her food. He said he didn’t ever eat leftovers so he gave it to a homeless person who asked him for money. This was Patricia’s favorite dish and she had intentionally saved it to enjoy at home. Now, she just can’t get past this even though everything else about him. is perfect.
Ayla Brown: And good morning to Patricia. Hi, how are you? Happy belated birthday. Jim just told me it was your birthday.
Patricia: Hi. Thanks so much.
Ayla Brown: You’re welcome. Something happened, though, for the birthday dinner.
Patricia: Oh, my goodness. You just can’t believe it. I’m going to dinner with my family and my new beau, my boyfriend, Anthony. First of all, there’s a long way just to get to the restaurant. So, you know, he has the park a long ways away. Okay. That didn’t help at all because we ended up getting an Uber over just to get from the parking lot to the restaurant.
Ayla Brown: Where was the restaurant? Was it in Boston or was it somewhere else?
Patricia: Yes, it was like the north end.
Ayla Brown: Oh, yeah. The parking is awful down there. So you had to take an Uber from a different lot over there?
Patricia: It was terrible. But then we get to the restaurant. I’m introducing him to everyone.
Ayla Brown: For the first time?
Patricia: Yes, for the first time.
Ayla Brown: Oh, did they like him?
Patricia: They did, you know, and it went well. I thought everyone was getting along. Everyone was enjoying it. Good. And we ordered all the food. We all did a lot of my favorite dishes. I love seafood. Seafood is my specialty, and I really love that. So I wanted to make sure that everybody had enough. And then I ordered my favorite, red snapper.
Ayla Brown: Oh, wow.
Patricia: I love red snapper. It was sauteed with vegetables and a nice salad to it. My favorite. I wanted it grilled, so it was really special. Made just for me. We get ready to leave, and I decided, you know what? We have so much. Let me just ask for them to put it in a doggy bag so I could take it with me. So, we called the waiter over. They put it in the little container. I’m talking to all my family. They’re telling me he’s really a nice guy. I think he’s going to be the one. And I’m like, I think so. I think he’s going to be the one.
Ayla Brown: I feel like this is going great so far and I feel like it’s about to take a turn. So why are you calling me?
Patricia: Okay, so we’re on our way back and I’m staying with the family. He goes ahead of me, he gets the Uber. I get back and I leave the family and get back to the car. And I’m like, So where’s my food? And he’s like, Are you kidding? I knew you weren’t going to eat it. So I gave it to a homeless person to eat. And was like? Excuse me? You did what?
Ayla Brown: Yeah. You’re fantasizing about having leftovers at the house. And then he gives it away to someone else without asking.
Patricia: Why? Just so long as he gives it away to a homeless guy? I mean, I get that, but that’s my food. Why don’t you get something and give your food away? That was my food. Are you kidding me?
Ayla Brown: This is so beautiful. So is your question. You just want to know if you’re being a little extra about this?
Patricia: I want to know if anyone else feels the same as me. Would they be upset if a guy did that? You know, this stuff is my favorite.
