Country Mornings with Jonathan & Ayla

Laura called in to "Ask Ayla Brown" and wanted to know if it was a red flag that her new man is asking her to take off the crust of his sandwiches. Is it?

First things first, why do people insist on slicing away the crust? Is it a deeply-rooted aversion to crunchy edges, or simply a preference for the tender center?

I would never cut crust off of a beautiful piece of bread because I’m too frugal (and I LOVE food). But a popular reason for cutting crust off of bread suggests that these crustless sandwich lovers are just embracing their inner “Peter Pan.” These people are just forever young and refusing to grow up. After all, removing the crust from sandwiches seems to hark back to the carefree days of childhood, where picky eaters reigned supreme.

Laura’s “Peter Pan” Man In “Ask Ayla Brown”

Let’s talk about Laura’s predicament, shall we? Laura called into our segment “Ask Ayla Brown” on Country 102.5 to discuss her ongoing crust-cutting dilemma. (Listen below!)

Apparently, Laura’s new 4-month flame insists that she slice off the bread edges for every sandwich, just like his beloved mommy used to do for him. Laura, understandably, is raising an eyebrow, wondering if this is a red flag or simply an eccentric quirk. Well, Laura, we’re here to help you navigate this crusty conundrum!

Laura’s new man loves crust taken off of his sandwiches. She thinks he’s a momma’s boy and this is a major red flag. What do you think?

Crust Or No Crust?

Let’s remember that everyone’s taste buds dance to a different beat. Some prefer their sandwiches with a crunchy crown, while others opt for a more delicate bite. Whether you’re a crust fanatic or a crust rebel, let’s embrace the quirks that make us unique and celebrate the joy that sandwiches bring to our lives.

And to Laura, if all else fails, you can always surprise your man with a sandwich-shaped cake—with or without crust. Love conquers all, even the crunchiest of challenges!

Laura, we want to help you! We don’t know if it’s enough to break up with the guy who doesn’t want crust on his sandwiches. But maybe this will help show you that there are lots of people out there that don’t like crust on their sandwiches!

The World’s Best Sandwiches To Eat With No Crust (According To You, NOT Me)

  • 1. Grilled Cheese

Dennis, a longtime listener of Country 102.5, takes his bread and uses a pint glass to cut out the bread. He claims this is the best way to make a grilled cheese. What do you think?

Many people take the crust off of their grilled cheese sandwiches. It’s diabolical, but hey, if you think it makes the sandwich taste better, then you do you! Just think about all of the bread you’re wasting in the process. (They do look cute though).

  • 2. Bologna Sandwiches

According to multiple listeners, the BEST way to eat a bologna sandwich is to cut the crust off, add cheese and potato chips and “squish.” When I asked what “squish” means, they explained where you literally crush the sandwich with your hands so it flattens. Apparently it tastes better that way. I’m still left very confused.

Listeners say to eat a Homemade Bologna and Cheese Sandwich with Chips, but “squish it!”

  • 3. Tea Sandwiches

At those fancy places they serve “tea sandwiches” with the crust cut off. I think they believe it looks fancier? But in all honestly, it’s just a cute little sandwich that you’ve probably paid WAY too much for. You’re always left hungry when you leave.

For some weird reason, all tea sandwiches come with no crust. It’s a staple when you have afternoon tea.

  • 4. Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches

If there’s ANY sandwich that you are going to take the crust off of, MAYBE this would be the one. And the only reason is because when you cut the crust off you can see inside the sandwich and you see the perfect proportion of jelly to peanut butter, and that’s kind of a beautiful sight.

A Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly Sandwich is a traditional choice for “no crust.” It’s probably the sandwich you requested as a kid and told your mommy to “cut the crust!”

  • 5. Peanut Butter and Fluff Sandwiches

Peanut butter and fluff sandwiches are already kind of on the dry side when you bite into them, so having extra crust is unnecessary. Actually, cutting the crust off of the peanut butter and fluff makes it taste more moist. There’s something about it. This is the only sandwich I would cut my crust off of.

  • Some People Cut The Crust Off Of ALL Sandwiches

If you are one of these people, you are a total psycho. Kidding, I still love you. But have you ever thought about WHY you cut the crust off? Is it s taste thing? Is it a texture thing? Or maybe you just like everything to look perfect and symmetrical? I’ve never cut the crust off of my sandwiches because I’m so frugal I would hate wasting bread. If I’m paying for a sandwich I want the whole dang thing!
