From sitcom to heavy drama. Bel-Air is getting flipped, turned upside down!

The new series will follow Will from the rough streets of West Phili to a new life in Cali with Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv.

The new show will be called “Bel-Air.” It’s based on a trailer that went viral last year, and was made by fan Morgan Cooper. The original Fresh Prince, actor/singer Will Smith saw the trailer and wanted in. So, his Westbrook Studios is on board, and together with Universal TV they are working with Cooper and shopping the show.

In a statement to TODAY, Universal said, “With a re-imagined vision, BEL-AIR will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show.”

It looks interesting, but I’m thinking the world could use more comedies right now. Isn’t there enough drama in daily life?
