Thousands of Country Music Fans Told To Evacuate At Jason Aldean’s Boston Concert
Jason Aldean had a concert in Mansfield, MA on July 29th and it was almost cancelled.
It’s true what they say, that you can’t predict the weather. But Mother Nature seems to have something against Bostonians having fun at concerts this season! First it was the epic downpour at the Taylor Swift show at Gillette in May. And then in July, Luke Combs was forced to cancel his show mid-show due to the lightening and heavy rain. And last night at XFINITY Center in Mansfield, Jason Aldean was hit with the fierce weather Gods again. I was there! Read about what happened.
Corey Kent Played First
The weather was completely fine for the first opener, Corey Kent. He had the whole crowd moving and singing to his songs. The energy and excitement was certainly building for Mitchell and Jason. Corey’s biggest hit came at the end of his set with, “Wild As Her.” Did you know that Morgan Wallen wrote that song?
Mitchell Tenpenny’s Set Was Cut Completely
Mitchell Tenpenny was supposed to be the second opener right before Jason Aldean, but his show was cut completely because of the severe thunderstorms. He and his band were supposed to take the stage at 8:15pm, but at 8:09pm, a representative from XFINITY Center got on the microphone and told fans to safely exit the venue and head back to their vehicles and take shelter.
Everyone who had tickets in the lawn, or outside of the amphitheater covering were forced by Live Nation and XFINITY employees to leave and go back to their cars. They were told to keep an eye out on the venue’s social pages for updates on whether the show would be cancelled or resume.
Then Came The Tornado Warning
Thousands of country music fans were already outside of the venue. Some people, like myself and my husband, felt like it was safer to stay inside of the venue under cover, since that’s where our seats were. That’s when an XFINITY employee came up to us and said that there were tornado warnings. She said that if we saw one, to take shelter and get down low. At this point in the evening, around 8:20pm, the rain was coming down sideways and the wind was picking up with some force behind it. You could feel it in the air, there absolutely was a chance of a tornado!
The Venue Finally Announced The Jason Aldean Concert Would Resume
At exactly 9:31pm, the XFINITY Center announced that the show would go on! They switched the sign from the weather alert to the green colored, “Good News” sign. The crowd was beyond excited to get back to their seats to see Jason Aldean take the stage. Right before Aldean took the stage, the entire crowd sang “Sweet Caroline.” It was a pretty epic Boston moment.
The curfew at XFINITY Center is usually 11:00pm, but they allowed Jason to sing until 11:30pm. He was able to sing a full 90-mins of his set. Fans were left fulfilled and happy that Jason was able to continue the show.
Jason Aldean Addressed His Song, “Try That In A Small Town” At His Concert
Jason Aldean addressed stopped his show and spoke to the Boston fans about the controversy of his song and video, “Try That In A Small Town.” He spoke about what Bostonians would have done if they saw the Marathon Bomber. In the speech he said, “The whole country and especially Boston came together to find those two pricks that did that right? And anybody who woulda found those guys before the cops did, I know you guys from Boston woulda beat the sh*t outta em’.”
He reiterated that he loves his country and he feel so blessed that people have connected with the song and made it the biggest of his career. The Boston crowd went wild.
“…This is not about race. It’s about people getting their sh*t together, acting right, acting like you got some common sense.”
