It’s that time of year. And it’s not for the weak. Stories are told and shared, goosebumps appear and things go thump in the night. I will share that I’ve stayed at the Omni Parker House Hotel and can report at that time, no paranormal activity. I wasn’t aware of the stories of ghost sightings, unusual smells and sounds in the night. Now I am. So, I ask you; Is the historic Omni Parker House hotel in Boston really haunted?
Clearly, I have no personal experience in this department, so I rely on the internet. And when Googling the subject at least 6 articles immediately pop up. There is that much suspicion to create a buzz online. I had to know more. When, what and who? Stories appeared from everywhere, including Trip Advisor, Historic Hotels of America, Time Out Boston, History of Massachusetts, and even from the hotel’s own parent company, Omni.

Is The Historic Omni Parker House Hotel In Boston Really Haunted? Apparently, The elegant dwelling has quite the ghostly reputation. As noted in Historic Hotels of America, this has been going on for quite some time. In fact, they reported that the earliest paranormal sightings date back as far as 1940. The article says “guests report seeing numerous apparitions on the 9th and 10th floors that aimlessly walk the corridors.” Time Out Boston pointed out, the Omni Parker House is a popular stop of the local Ghost Tours. And said, “the elevators have been known to operate independently, and hotel staff have responded to complaints of eerie noises coming from otherwise unoccupied rooms.” And to think I stayed there!
But wait, there is more. According to the Parker House website, the hotel opened in 1855 and founded by Harvey D. Parker. It’s his ghost that people think they see. To add more fire to the fright flame, rumor has it that Parker died in his hotel. In an article from the Boston Globe in 1992 (as told in Boston Ghosts), a former bellman named John Brehm did report a mysterious figure roaming the halls of the 10th floor. He told The Globe that other guests on the 10th floor have also complained of abnormalities. The sound of rocking chairs were so prominent for some guests, they couldn’t sleep. The hotel doesn’t have any rocking chairs. Just going to leave that there.
There have been reports of the smell of whiskey and cigars in a room where there is no smoking. One woman ever said she woke to find a ghost of a man at the end of her bed, asking if she was enjoying her stay. The next morning she saw a portrait in the dining area that looked like her ghost. It was a painting of the owner, Harvey Parker. Do you believer? Find out for yourself, if you dare…
