It’s National Hot Sauce Day!

If you like to add a little heat to your food today is your day! You need to try my favorite, N.H. based Spicy Shark Hot Sauces.  We are lucky to have so many options here in the New England area. New Hampshire is home to N.H. Spicy Shark hot sauce.  One of the hottest on the market.

I met Spicy Shark  owner and founder Gabe Gabe DiSaverio a few years ago.  Immediately, I was was impressed with his knowledge and passion for the hot sauce business. He is a big guy with lot’s of energy and his enthusiasm is contagious. If you have never tried the Spicy Shark assortment of spicy sauces, I highly recommend you do. There is so much variety and different levels of heat, that everyone will be able to find a sauce that suits their tastes.

I had a chance to ask Gabe a few questions about his Spicy Shark business

When did you start the company and where did it begin? September 2018, Portsmouth NH

Where did the passion for spice begin? I grew up in northern NJ, had lots of Indian and Asian friends and was eating spicy foods as a kid.  Our favorite fastfood places was called “Curry in a Hurry”

What was your first homemade sauce/spice – what is now the Spicy Shark Original Habanero hot sauce. Was a from me and my sister’s recipe, although we used to make it with scotch bonnets vs habaneros early on

How are things going with the company?  We’ve grown every year, have won 11 scovie awards (the Oscars of hot sauce, including best in show in 2020). The company was just were featured on Season 21 of the hit YouTube Show Hot Ones last year, the first NH company to ever be on the show, you have to check out the Jennifer Lawrence episode!

What is the hottest spice that you sell? We have 2 “6-Fin” extreme heat hot sauces, technically the Hammah Gatah (pronounced “Ham-uh Gay-tah”) is the hottest. 

Where can folks find Spicy Shark? We’re mostly in specialty shops but we do have one grocery chain and that’s Whole Foods (for Northeast only). You can find our Original Habanero and Thresher Shark Chipotle in all Whole Foods in New England, some select Whole Foods have our Wing Sauce and Hot Honey.

Here’s the spice man himself, Gabe DiSaverio!

Bob is a native New Englander, growing up (sorta) in Maine where his love for radio started at a young age. While in high school he hosted radio shows on a local radio station, and he has never looked back. Bob joined the US Navy and served onboard the Sixth Fleet Flagship as a radio and TV host. After serving for 3 years, it was off to Emerson College in Boston. Bob hosted shows in Boston on WMEX, WVBF and WSSH in the 80’s and 90’s before heading to radio stations in Raleigh, NC, Manchester, NH, and New York City. Bob has been married for almost 25 years to Carolyn, a Woburn gal and they have 3 daughters, Nicole, Taylor, and Bridget. 7 Delicious Deals In The Boston Area When You're Low On Cash

With prices on the rise in pretty much every aspect of our lives, we’re all looking for ways to save a little cash. Eating out has become more expensive, and for a lot of us, that means cutting back the amount of times we hit a restaurant. Well, there are restaurants offering some delicious deals that are easy on your budget.

Rising food prices

If you’ve stepped into any restaurant over the past couple years, you’ve definitely seen an increase in prices. No it’s not your imagination, and unfortunately, it’s not getting better. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that they’re expecting prices to increase 8.2% this year. According to their April 2023 forecasts, they say that restaurant and at-home food prices are expected to rise this year “at above historical-average rates. And last year, restaurant prices increased by 7.7%.

Tips for saving money at the grocery store

The good news is that there are lots of ways to save money. And Her Money has some tips on how to stretch your money.

  • Set a budget – I know, I know, we’ve all heard it before. But we need to do it. Figure out how much you have to spend, and here’s the hard part, stick to it. You got this!
  • Meal prep/plan (if you don’t already) – This goes hand in hand with budgeting. If you know what you’re going to be making, it’ll be easier to make a list and only get what you need.
  • Don’t be loyal – We all have our favorites, but sometimes it doesn’t pay to be loyal. Your favorite grocery store might not have the best deal. If not, don’t feel bad for temporarily jumping ship.
  • Cut down on impulse buys – Again, stick to the list. It’s SO hard, but if you’re trying to stick to a budget, don’t let temptation get the best of you.
  • Buy in bulk – This is especially helpful for meat which can be more expensive. Take advantage of sales and freeze what you’re not going to use right away.
