Three Capital Cities In New England Are Among The Best To Live In
It used to be that the capital city in your state was viewed as a place you visit. Whether it was for a school trip, sporting event, or to tour a landmark or museum. However, WalletHub recently detailed that capital cities have now become common places to live, and three New England cities are among the best.
“State capitals theoretically should demonstrate the very best of what the state has to offer,” says WalletHub Analyst Cassandra Happe.
In order to determine which state capitals are also great places to live in 2024, WalletHub studied four major areas. They are affordability, economic well-being, quality of education and health, and quality of life. Then, over these four categories, 48 different metrics were evaluated.
Concord, NH Ranked #10
The first of the New England cities to make an appearance on the best capital cities to live in on the list was Concord. Affordability was a big reason. In fact, Concord ranked as the fourth most affordable capital city in the country. It also had the third-highest median income. Then, perhaps the most impressive statistic is that Concord had the lowest crime rate of all the capital cities.
Montpelier, VT Ranked #17
In under two hours, you can then arrive at the next New England spot named here. Montpelier shined when it comes to the quality of education and health in the city. It ranks as the third-best city in this area. Other praise for Montpelier came in the metric for the percentage of adults with a bachelor’s degree or higher and the percentage of poverty. Both had the Vermont capital as number the number best place.
Boston, MA Ranked #20
Just squeezing into the top 20, Boston was the best (#1) capital city in the quality of life department. That is certainly high praise. Boston also stands atop when it comes to debt as a percentage of median income. Finally, restaurants, attractions, and millennials moving in are other areas where Boston was noted.
If you are wondering how the other New England capital cities fared here, Providence wasn’t bad, coming in at 25. Connecticut and Maine did not have positive results, however. They placed 46th and 49th, unfortunately.
