Jelly Roll: The CMA He Doesn’t Want This Year
Next month for the first time in his career, Jelly Roll is up for the coveted Entertainer of the Year award at the CMA Awards. In a recent interview, Jelly was asked what the award meant to him among his other nominations.
Jelly said candidly, “I don’t want to win Entertainer of the Year. I wanna win Collab of the Year, I wanna win Event of the Year.'”
Jelly explained that when he was nominated for “these four awards,” he called his publicist, and I said, ‘I don’t know how this works, but do we campaign for one?'”
He continued that his publicist then asked him, “Well, which one do you want to win, besides Entertainer of the Year?” He replied that he didn’t want the top award.
The country superstar said that his song “Save Me” meant so much to him, and it was the song that did it. It was the song that changed his whole life, then went on to the radio and changed his life again.
He continued that it’s four years later, and the song has helped millions of people, and he’s winning an award for it. He noted, “I’m like, ‘Get out, this is crazy.'”
Since Jelly wrote that song, he’s had a couple of memorable years in country music: 2023 and 2024 were really when he became a country music superstar. His career and life are in a better place these days than when he first wrote that song, and he’s quite grateful for it.
The CMA Awards will be handed out live from Nashville on November 20.
