Ocean State Job Lot Plans New Store Opening in Cumberland Crossing Shopping Center
The discount retail chain plans to unveil its new storefront at Cumberland Crossing in the second quarter of 2025, a statement from the company notes. It will hire up to 70 people for its North Attleborough location.
The company’s purchase of Cumberland Crossing will mark its 53rd store in Massachusetts and its eighth in Bristol County. This acquisition is also the third location in Massachusetts and sixth store in New England that Ocean State Job has purchased in retail spaces formerly occupied by the Christmas Tree Shops. The New England-based Christmas Tree Shops shuttered its stores more than a year ago after it declared bankruptcy and went out of business.
Ocean State Job Lot sells apparel, pet supplies, and household goods at closeout prices. The business has approximately 5,600 employees and earns more than $800 million in annual sales.
“We’re thrilled not only to expand our retail footprint but also to solidify our presence in North Attleborough through the acquisition of this prominent shopping plaza,” said Mark O’Connor, senior real estate manager for Ocean State Job Lot, in a statement released to Boston.com. “This location represents our ongoing commitment to providing value-driven shopping experiences for our customers across New England.”
Ocean State Job Lot said its latest acquisition of Cumberland Crossing supports the company’s growth strategy of “repurposing former retail sites.” Former Christmas Tree Shops locations in Avon and Pembroke have also become Ocean State Job Lot hubs.
