Boston Ranked #2 As Best Sports City? You Won’t Believe Who Is #1
Wait, Boston is #2 best sports city? What alternate universe are we living in when a laid-back, sun-soaked, city of celebs ranks higher than Boston as the Best Sports City in America? Yup, Boston ranked #2 as best sports city. You won’t believe who is #1!
Could it be our prices? It’s definitely not our passion (although that is waning lately for the Patriots). Still, we have the big bad Bruins, the slick Celtics and the best ball park in the USA. Across the country we are paying through the nose for tickets to watch our favorite teams live in action. With that said, the personal finance website WalletHub just released it’s report on the Best Sports Cities of 2023. This information is meant to help fans find out where to get the most for their dollar.
So, how did WalletHub come up with their 10 top Best Sports Cities? The research compared 397 cities across more than 50 key metrics “related to the five largest sports in the U.S: Football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer.” As a means of determining the best sports cities, WH put together their previous results in the individual sports categories rankings. Each sport was then given a weight, relating to the total percentage of “adults in the U.S. who claim to follow that particular sport, according to Gallup.
Here’s the weight percentage assigned to each sport:
- Football Ranking (Overall) – Total Weight: 54 Percent
- Basketball Ranking (Overall) – Total Weight: 16 Percent
- Baseball Ranking (Overall) – Total Weight: 13 Percent
- Soccer Ranking (Overall) – Total Weight: 11 Percent
- Hockey Ranking (Overall) – Total Weight: 6 Percent
And the TOP TEN SPORTS CITIES IN AMERICA ARE…
- Los Angeles, CA
- Boston, MA
- Pittsburg, PA
- New York, NY
- Dallas, TX
- Miami, FL
- Philadelphia, PA
- Washington, DC
- San Francisco, CA
- Cincinnati, OH
Seriously, LA? They’re passion has to been clouded by the smog, or perhaps the palm trees. Ok, Boston did rank a respectable #2 overall. We’ll take that for now. And come back strong next year. After all, “there’s always next year.”
