In honor of International Left-Handers Day, I went internet shopping and found some left-handed gifts. I couldn’t believe some of the items that exist for lefties! I am a lefty so you would think I would know, but the joke is on me.
What It Is Being Left-Handed
I have been left-handed since birth. Even though the world average puts lefties at 10% of the population, we are four for four on lefties at my house. I always wondered if because the parents set a left-handed example, the kids were more likely to be left-handed. Having said that, I’m the only lefty on my side of the family.
I spent a day as a child teaching myself how to use right-handed scissors because at that time the left-handed scissors all sucked. You couldn’t cut butter with them and they were very small.
School desks! ARG! The right-handed school desks were a definite no-go for me. I had to look around for left-handed desks or use a straight-forward desk that was good for right and left.
Once I had my desk, I would smear my hand through everything I wrote. By the end of the day, I had a number two pencil lead covering the bottom side of my hand starting at my pinkie and continuing down the side of my hand.
Don’t even get me started on the right-handed notebooks. If you are right-handed, you probably never noticed these things. As a lefty, it was just the way things were.

Today’s Left-Handed Gadgets
Today there are so many more options for lefties… also known as southpaws. Many of the same things I just complained about, notebooks, scissors and more are now available in a left-handed model.
When I was searching for left-handed gifts, I came across items that I didn’t know existed. Did you know there’s a left-handed tape measurer? Spoons? All kinds of good stuff! Scroll down and check it out!
