Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox On Changes In The Music Industry
A lot has changed in the music industry, but a lot has stayed the same. That’s how Rascal Flatts‘ Gary Levox sees it, anyway.
As for what, exactly, Gary is talking about the business of selling music and touring. “The way that people buy music has changed, but I don’t think the way touring and all of that has changed very much,” he says in an interview released by the trio’s record label. “Hopefully you have a hit song and you can go out and you can put together a good tour and you can go work a new record, and I think all that’s still the same. But just the way that music’s bought [is different]. I mean there wasn’t streaming and all of that kind of stuff in the past … it went from eight tracks to vinyl to cassettes to now you can just sit at home and download it. So I think that’s probably the biggest change in the music industry.”

Rascal Flatts should understand how the industry has evolved if anyone, of course. The guys having been turning out hits since 1999. Today they’ve got 10 studio albums under their collective belt and 30 singles. Their latest album Back To Us was released in May and there are plans for a new tour in 2018.
