Luke Bryan Visits New York Hospital With Musicians On Call
Luke Bryan has been making the promotional rounds in support of his new album What Makes You Country, but the superstar is making time for other important things, too. Among them? Hospital-room concerts with Musicians On Call.
The organization brings live and recorded music to patients in a variety of healthcare facilities and Luke was recently enlisted to help out at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital. His appearance marked the start of MOC’s Music Pharmacy program, which allows patients to access music from their beds on tablets loaded with Pandora Plus subscriptions. The program is sponsored by Pandora and Bose, which provides new noise-cancelling headphones the patients can listen with.
Being part fo the launch was a special experience on a variety of fronts, Luke says. “Me being a musician, being able to participate [is one thing], but [it’s just as special] knowing that this is going on in so many hospital rooms across the country,” he explains in video from the event (above). “And [then there’s] knowing that this is spreading so much love and joy, and making so many people hopefully have a better day.”

It’s impossible to have artists roaming hospital halls around the clock, of course, and that’s one reason MOC created the Music Pharmacy program. “This way when we’re not at the hospital playing live music, the patients still have access to music on demand through this program,” Musicians On Call’s Pete Griffin tells Nashville’s The Tennessean newspaper. “The research has shown that having regular access to music while in a hospital significantly improves that patient experience and brings them some healing and joy while they are in the facility.”
Sixty hospitals will enjoy the Music Pharmacy beginning next year. More are expected to follow. Read more in The Tennessean here.
