Morgan Wallen Makes History: First Artist with Three Simultaneous Top Billboard, Hot Country Singles
Morgan Wallen has made history with hit singles “Love Somebody,” “Last Night,” and “I Had Some Help.” Wallen is the first artist to have the three hits simultaneously topping both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts.
“Love Somebody,” which released Oct. 18, 2024, is Wallen’s third Hot 100 leader. In a 2024 statement shared with Billboard, Wallen said, “‘Love Somebody’ is a little bit of a new approach lyrically and sonically. I wanted to try something different, with what I wanted to talk about … how I wanted it to sound, and we were inspired by Latin-leaning influences. I’m really excited about this song and pumped that it is out.”
In May 2024, Wallen’s collaboration with Post Malone on “I Had Some Help” clinched the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts. The song takes the point of view of someone spiraling downward after a breakup who wants an ex to admit the relationship’s end was partly her fault. The lyrics suggest both are to blame: “I ain’t an angel; you ain’t heaven-sent.”
The duo first premiered the song in April 2024 at the Stagecoach Music Festival. In September 2024, Billboard reported the song held the top spot on the charts from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
“Last Night” won Wallen recognition beyond the Nashville music community as a popular country-pop crossover song in 2023. Country Central noted that the song is “undeniably more of a pop song than a country song” and wasn’t initially released to country radio.
Wallen’s success continues with his “Dangerous: The Double Album” claiming Billboard’s Top Album of the 21st Century. It remained in the top 10 for 158 weeks and spent 97 weeks at No. 1.
