Meet Jennie List from Reading, MA
Listening to Jennie List may give you a sense that you know her. She has a sweet comfortableness that is completely charming. And if you don’t feel like you know her, you likely will feel like you want to know her.
List articulates, making it easy to follow her story. She is able to emote her sincerity, making it easy to believe in her narrative.
Growing up with music as a major part of her life, from an early age, must certainly have fed Jennie’s ambition. But her authenticity is pure heart and soul. And definitely worth a listen.

- Grew up in: Reading, MA
- Now lives in: Nashville, TN
- Current single: My new single is called “Look At Me Like That” and my EP Experiments With Gravity was released last summer
- What lead you to music: I come from a long line of musicians, and my parents are avid music lovers, so I was always surrounded by all kinds of music growing up. My mom always jokes that I came out singing. As I got older, and started writing songs, it just became very clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career in music. So, I moved to Nashville for college and I haven’t left since.
- How old when you started: I started taking music lessons when I was 5 years old, and I was performing in regional choirs by age 9. I didn’t start writing my own music until I was about 14.
- Instruments played: Guitar and Piano (but I can also play a mean triangle solo.)
- How would you describe your sound: Folk Country with some Rock elements sprinkled in here and there.
- Who inspires you: One of my biggest musical inspirations is Lori McKenna. Her writing is incredibly authentic and profound, but also so relatable at the same time. I’ve always admired that she has been able to maintain a career in Nashville, but also stay true to her Massachusetts roots. She’s managed to find that balance between having a career and having a family, and I think that’s such an admirable thing.
- Awards/accolades: New England Country Music Organization’s Songwriter of the Year and Most Promising Songwriter awards. (2015 and 2016)
- Dream duet partner: Dolly Parton
- All- time favorite country song: (or songs if you can’t name just one): Miranda Lambert – “The House That Built Me,” Reba McEntire – “Whoever’s in New England,” Lonestar – “I’m Already There,” Patsy Cline – “I Fall To Pieces”
- First country concert: Hunter Hayes, my mom and I had seats way in the back of the venue and I remember memorizing the lyrics to every song on the album ahead of the concert so I could sing along the whole time.
- What songs do you like now on Country 102.5: Maddie and Tae “Die From A Broken Heart,” Luke Combs “Lovin’ On You,” Chris Janson “Done”
- If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing: I’d probably own a bakery or café. I love to bake and cook, and I love getting to know people. I’ve often thought it may be my retirement project years down the line. A seaside café that plays country music sounds pretty perfect to me.
- Day Job: I work as a publicist and do digital content creation for an entertainment company based out of Nashville.
- Most proud moment: One of the things I’m most proud of is releasing my EP last summer. It was the first time I had ever shared recordings of my work, and really the first time I’d ever released music as an artist, which was a very vulnerable thing. But it was so incredible to see the countless hours and energy that my producer, musicians, and I all put into it come together as a final product, and especially one that I felt so confident standing behind and owning as my work.
- Crazy thing that happened in your music career: Meeting Randy Travis. The first song I ever learned to play on guitar was “Forever and Ever Amen.” I used to listen to it over and over. I’ve had the honor of working with Randy through my job in the music industry. I know people warn you not to meet your idols, but he is genuinely one of the kindest souls I’ve ever met. It was such an amazing full circle moment.
- Other things you like to do: Sew, cook, garden, spend time with friends and family, travel, read, listen to music!
- Fun Facts: I am related to Clement Clark Moore who wrote The Night Before Christmas, I took two years of German in college, and I can do accents and impressions.
- Mantra: Learn to love the journey.
