Two Massachusetts Breweries Are Merging
A Framingham-based brewery is acquiring a Worcester-based brewery. Wormtown was just sold to Jack’s Abby in an effort to join forces, combining their resources for future endeavors.
“With the sale, Jack’s Abby — changing its corporate name to the Hendler Family Brewing Co. after the three brothers who founded it in Framingham 13 years ago — becomes one of the 30 biggest breweries in the country,” the Worcester Telegram said.
Wormtown will soon close up its brewing operation in Worcester and move into Jack Abby’s setup. However, the Wormtown brew house taprooms will remain standing. Currently, they are located in nearby Worcester and in Foxboro.
The latter is part of Patriot’s Place, adjacent to Gillette Stadium. With its signature yellow logo and corner location, it’s an ideal option for pre- or post-game fun.
“In addition to a new white tile bar, large patio, indoor/outdoor fireplace, and three new murals, Wormtown has also installed a 7bbl brew system that will be fully operational for the start of the year and allow the brewery to offer new and different beers from the Worcester location,” Wormtown Patriot’s Place says of its location.
They have 14 different draft lines and a catchy slogan, “Don’t Worry, Be Hoppy.”
What To Expect With The Jack’s Abby Wormtown Merge
The Worcester Telegram also shared a quote from Sam Hendler, Jack Abby’s CEO, and co-founder. Hendler said, “It’s a stressful environment for midsize breweries, and pooling resources is how you will see independent breweries of this size survive and, hopefully, thrive. “We want to build something stable and strong, and combining these two businesses will accomplish that.”
The obvious question becomes what happens to the Wormtown brand and beer types. So far, it has been stated that Wormtown’s majority of the employee base will remain intact, as will the marketing and packaging.
On the Jack’s Abby side, they are currently breaking down their selections into six beer categories. They are core, seasonal, cut through the haze, kellerbier, specialty drops, and dark lagers. Their beer hall and kitchen is open six days per week (closed on Monday). On Friday and Saturday, it stays open late until 11 pm. It is located at 100 Clinton St in Framingham.
This new coming together of popular Massachusetts breweries will be expected to finalize and close in the early summer of 2024. As Brewbound explains, Jack’s Abby plan is to “operate the two breweries under the newly created parent company Hendler Family Brewing Co.”
