Massachusetts Grinchiest and Ranks 45th in Christmas Spirit
When it comes to holiday cheer, Massachusetts isn’t exactly rocking around the Christmas tree.
A new study from BetMGM Casino puts the Bay State at a dismal 45th out of 50 states for Christmas excitement.
That’s right, folks—only five states are less jolly than us.
The study analyzed Google search trends for 30 Christmas-related terms, from “Santa Tracker” and “Elf on the Shelf” to “Christmas cookies” and “The Grinch.”
Searches started November 1, when pumpkins were swapped for pine trees. Massachusetts scored a not-so-merry 46.64, earning it a spot near the bottom of the list.
So, who’s leading the sleigh?
Kansas takes the top spot as the most Christmas-obsessed state, scoring a festive 77.74.
Alaska and Idaho aren’t far behind, proving that even the coldest corners of the U.S. can warm up with holiday spirit.
Meanwhile, Pennsylvania earned the dubious honor of being the biggest Grinch in the nation, with a score of just 30.09.
The study highlights regional quirks in holiday enthusiasm.
States in the Midwest and West dominate the top 10, while the Northeast and South lag behind. Vermont (ranked 7th) and Maine (8th) are the only New England states bringing any holiday heat.
But what’s holding Massachusetts back?
Is it our love-hate relationship with snow? Our busy schedules? Or are we just too focused on Patriots games to start decking the halls?
Whatever the reason, there’s still time to turn things around. After all, Christmas isn’t just about search trends—it’s about spreading joy. So, grab a cup of cocoa, stream some holiday classics, and maybe give Rudolph a quick Google search.
Check out the full rankings and see how your state stacks up. Whether you’re channeling Buddy the Elf or Scrooge, there’s no wrong way to celebrate the season.
Feeling competitive? Maybe it’s time to show Kansas what Massachusetts is made of—one Christmas keyword at a time.
