Boston Community Steps Up With Overwhelming Support for Toy Drive Donations
Toys, toys, and more toys are coming to a Boston nonprofit after it raised concerns last week that its annual toy drive might fall significantly short of its goals this holiday season.
Action for Boston Community Development, ABCD, has been overwhelmed by the community support it has received over the past week. Bostonians have donated more than 6,500 toys to help ABCD give kids the gift of Christmas cheer.
“We did a callout to the community. The following day after the news went live, we had calls, emails, people coming in. Within 24 hours, we had a nice pouring out of toys,” said Bianny Suncar, director of the ABCD Toy Drive, in an interview with NBC 10 Boston.
The donations of Christmas toys will soon be leaving the nonprofit’s Dorchester community office for distribution across Boston. Suncar explained that volunteers will share the toys among the organization’s 12 neighborhood services centers to distribute to children from birth to age 12.
In addition to the toys collected, Johnson Brunetti Retirement Services contributed $1,000 toward ABCD’s 2024 holiday toy drive.
“Thank you. The support and outpouring of love is really phenomenal,” Suncar said.
While the ABCD team will be wrapping up its toy drive soon, it continues to seek toys for the 10 to 12 age group and welcomes donations for kids in this age range. Find out how you can contribute by visiting the ABCD website.
