Cape Cod Woman Gives Birth On The Side Of The Road On Route 6
Rebecca James Mahota tried her hardest to get to the hospital in time, but the world had a different plan for her and she gave birth on the side of the road on Route 6. Everyone always says that a woman’s second baby comes quicker, but no one could have imagined that hers could arrive that fast.
Rebecca James Mahota owns her own lash and beauty shop on Cape Cod in North Chatham, It’s called RJ’s Beauty. She specializes in lash extensions, lash lift and tints, and spray tans. I have been to her last studio, and we met back in 2017 at the Kenny Chesney Concert. She was hired as a model by Kenny’s liquor company, Blue Chair Bay. We quickly hit it off and I have made the trip to Chatham to get my lashes done a few times.
Baby Arrived On Route 6
According to a post on Rebecca’s Instagram page, on the side of Route 6 somewhere near exit five, Summer James Mahota was delivered by mom and dad in the passenger seat of her Land Rover. It happened on Thursday, August 8th. Rebecca’s husband, Dayna Mahota, drove as fast as he could. He attempted to weave in and out of slow summer Cape Cod traffic. But even the emergency hazards, flickering of the headlights, and beeping didn’t get the parents to the hospital in time.
Twenty-six minutes into Rebecca’s contractions, her water broke. She took off her shorts and supported her baby’s head as Dayna safely pulled over. Rebecca wrote about the delivery, “He ran around the truck to catch my feet on his shoulders and with grace and impressive technique we worked beautifully as a team to deliver her in about two and a half minutes. My mother had knit her a little quilt, we used to wipe her down, clear her umbilical cord and continue on driving to meet the ambulance in the dunks parking lot over the sagamore.”
The Baby Is Completely Healthy
Rebecca, Dayna and new baby, Summer, rode to Beth Israel hospital to finish the birth. The midwives took great care of the new baby and mother. A few hours later, Rebecca’s older daughter, Kendall arrived at the hospital to meet her new sister.
Rebecca ends her Instagram post with, “And, my devotion, respect, appreciation and love has never been stronger, which I didn’t think was even possible, for my incredible husband. Honestly, absolute dream team, thank you life for blessing us with this man, this experience, and this beautiful life we’ve created.”
How Common Is It To Give Birth On The Side Of The Road?
Most births that occur in the United States take place in a hospital. In fact, that number is an impressive 98.5%. But taking place in a car? That number is fewer than 8 in every 10,000 births. Giving birth in a car is not the preferred way to do it, but sometimes when those contractions happen, it’s hard to say when and where the baby will eventually come into the world.
