Fan Creates Patriots Logo Redesign – Would you like to see these helmets?
I was watching the Patriots this past Sunday, sulking, and I found myself thinking “man, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a new Patriots logo. Did you know the name he name “Patriots” actually came from a fan submission contest with the winners eligible to win a new television set? It’s true. The original logo was actually by a fan as well – Walter Pingree, who worked on the rails and lived in Somerville waaaaayyyyyy before it became hipster haven. And now another fan has reimagined the Patriots logo and begun to go viral. Would you support a change to the new fan logo? We’ll reveal that logo below, but first, some more quick Patriots logo history.
Pat Patriot made his debut in 1961 after Boston Globe cartoonist Phil Bissel first drew him in 1960. A year later Pat was on the helmets as the official team logo. In the late 70’s (while trying to jump on the popularity of Christopher Reeves’ Superman) the team introduced the “Super Patriot.” Super Patriot was a hit until he wasn’t and he was yanked towards the end of the season he was introduced. In 1993 we got the modern day “Flying Elvis” Patriots logo. It has remained since with different alternate helmets and jersies along the way and currently.
So what does the new reimagined logo look like?
I could describe but there’s no need because it’s all right here:
What do you think? Do you like the logo? Do you think it’s time for a little refreshening? The Patriots have definitely (and unfortunately, I guess) entered a new era, post Tom Brady and post dominance.
The fan who created the new redesign is Emily Morgan Creates. She’s on social as @EM_Creates. Reach out to her and let her know you love her logo if you do. I’m sure she’d love to hear from a ton of people.
