Massachusetts Jewish Tavern Named One of the Best New Restaurants in America – Let’s Peep the Menu!
Esquire Magazine released it’s annual Best New Restaurants in America list this week, comprised of the 50 new restaurants in America that got Esquire drooling all over their pages. And low and behold a Massachusetts eatery made the list! So let’s learn more about this Massachusetts mouthwatering munchery, Lehrhaus at 425 Washington Street in Somerville.
Lehrhaus is a Jewish Tavern and house of learning. That’s exactly what it sounds like. They serve delicious food (that’s most of what got this place on the list) and they offer classes for spiritual learning. Not all the classes are heavy lifting. They offer classes with contemporary and interesting twists such as The Search for Extraterrestrial Life and its Jewish Implications, Lit Yiddish Hanukkah Songs, and even How to Write a Jewish Joke. For more info on these and more classes CLICK HERE to head to the classes section of Lehrhaus’s website.
I love the spirit of the restaurant and I haven’t even set foot in it yet (but I will and SOON). Under their FAQ section one of the questions asks: “I’m not Jewish, can I come to Lehrhaus?” The answer is perfect: “Of course! Just like you don’t have to be French to enjoy a French restaurant, you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy a Jewish tavern and house of learning.” All are welcome.
Now… about the food. Under nibbles Lehrhaus features Deviled Eggs (I love seeing those on a menu even though I don’t eat them), Old Bay fries, and a smoked salmon plate, among other options. Entrees range from their BEET “PASTRAMI” REUBEN featuring sauerkraut, melted swiss, and russian dressing for $17 to FISH & CHIPS for $24, and their STUFFED DELICATA SQUASH with
jeweled rice, sabzi lentils, and a taamarind tahini for $23. The restaurant only opened this past March and also features a really fun cocktail list.
Congratulations on the huge nod, Lehrhaus! I can’t wait to come taste your food.
