What Type of Hot Dogs Costco Uses And Why They’re So Dang Delicious
Costco is almost as well known for it’s killer $1 hot dogs as it is for insanely large boxes of pretty much everything. Even as inflation continues to dwindle our bank accounts, the Costco hot dog remains frozen in time at just a dollar – and there are no plans on raising that price any time in the future.
So now let’s answer the burning questions: 1) what type of hot dog does Costco use for it’s buck dogs? and 2) why are they so dang good?
First thing first: Costco uses Kirkland Signature Beef Wieners. Kirkland is their signature brand. When Costco started serving hot dogs in their food courts they used Hebrew National dogs and continued using them until 2008 when they made the switch to Kirkland (you can buy the exact same dogs in bulk in their stores).
Now… people often ask: why are the hot dogs so damn good? I believe there are two answers: First, getting a bargain just tastes good. You can’t beat the price. A buck a dog? Come on! Or you can do the hot dog & fountain drink combo for $1.50 — and you get free refills?? That’s cuckoo bananas. Secondly, Kirkland Signature Beef Wieners are 100% pure beef hot dogs. They’re actually 10% thicker than the previously served Hebrew National hot dogs so they made a change to give you more for your dollar. The Kirkland dogs have no by-products, corn syrup, phosphates, fillers, or artificial colors or flavors. And that, my friends, is why Costco buck dawgs taste so dang good.
Speaking of deeeelish dawgs, here’s a bunch worth traveling for in New England:
