Millennials are Moving to This Massachusetts City Faster Than Any Other in the US!
Millennials have been hot on relocating to new cities, with 25% of the generation moving to a different metropolitan area in 2022 alone. A quarter of the 25-44 year-old population making a major metropolitan shift in the period of one single year is a surprisingly high number. Soooo… where’s everyone moving to? That’s what a new study from SmartAsset set out to find out. As it turns out, the highest percentage are moving to one Massachusetts city whose name doesn’t begin with a B, W, or S. The study used data for 268 cities in the US pulled from the Census Bureau’s 1-year American Community Survey for 2022 to determine where people between the ages of 25 and 44 had relocated to. The study used this data to rank the cities based on the rate at which millennials moved in as a percentage of the total population.
Millennials are moving to Seattle, Washington quite a bit. Seattle finished third in the study. New millennials make up 12.5% of the total population there. Seattle actually tied for third with Sunnyvale, California. I’ve never been there but if I ever visit I’ll be sure to pack some sunglasses as it sounds bright. Santa Clara, California finished at #2 on the list of cities millennials are moving to the fastest. New millennials make up 13.3% of the population there.
And coming in first place in the study was…… Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cambridge saw the most 25-44 year olds move there from other metropolitan areas in the year period looked at. New millennials make up 14.7% of the overall population of Cambridge.
But before you up and move to Cambridge, you should be aware that according to a recent report Massachusetts residents pay $7.3K more for household bills than the US average. That’s a lofty number. Here’s more on that:
